Selection of sampling points for saturation recovery based myocardial T1 mapping
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Quantitative myocardial T1 mapping allows assessment of focal and diffuse fibrosis in the myocardium, by sampling the T1 relaxation curve using inversion [1] or saturation recovery (SR) preparation [2] or a combination of both [3], followed by the acquisition of multiple images with different contrasts, which are subsequently fitted to a parametric equation pixel-wise to yield the T1 maps. In myocardial T1 mapping, there is a degree of freedom in selecting which points on the relaxation curve are sampled. However, this topic has not been studied. In this study, we sought to develop an estimation theoretic framework for optimal selection of sampling points and characterized the variance of the corresponding T1 estimator for sampling of the SR curve.

On the selection of sampling points for myocardial T1 mapping.
PURPOSE To provide a method for the optimal selection of sampling points for myocardial T1 mapping, and to evaluate how this selection affects the precision. THEORY The Cramér-Rao lower bound on the variance of the unbiased estimator was derived for the sampling of the longitudinal magnetization curve, as a function of T1 , signal-to-noise ratio, and noise mean. The bound was then minimized n...
متن کاملOptimized saturation recovery protocols for T1-mapping in the heart: influence of sampling strategies on precision
BACKGROUND T1-mapping has the potential to detect and quantify diffuse processes such as interstitial fibrosis. Detection of disease at an early stage by measurement of subtle changes requires a high degree of reproducibility. Initial implementation of saturation recovery (SR) T1-mapping employed 3-parameter fitting which was highly accurate but was quite sensitive to noise; 2-parameter fitting...
متن کاملMyocardial T1 mapping using SMART1Map: initial in vivo experience
Background Recently a single-point, saturation-recovery myocardial T1 mapping sequence (SMART1Map = Saturation Method using Adaptive Recovery Times for cardiac T1 Mapping) was presented [1]. Compared to common methods like MOLLI, SMART1Map measures true T1 instead of apparent T1 relaxation, is more time efficient and can track exact TI times instead of estimated ones based on the heart rate dur...
متن کاملFat-water separated myocardial T1 mapping with IDEAL-T1 saturation recovery gradient echo imaging
Background Myocardial T1 mapping is emerging as powerful tool for tissue characterization, however the presence of intramyocardial or epicardial fat can contaminate T1 values through partial voluming, or preclude analysis, particularly in areas of infarct or thin walled myocardium, such as the right ventricle. We propose and evaluate a new combined fat-water separated saturation-recovery imagin...
متن کاملMyocardial T1-mapping at 3T using saturation-recovery: reference values, precision and comparison with MOLLI
BACKGROUND Myocardial T1-mapping recently emerged as a promising quantitative method for non-invasive tissue characterization in numerous cardiomyopathies. Commonly performed with an inversion-recovery (IR) magnetization preparation at 1.5T, the application at 3T has gained due to increased quantification precision. Alternatively, saturation-recovery (SR) T1-mapping has recently been introduced...
